What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading” usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged. Over 30 years later TEDTalks cover a plethora of topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the globe.
What is TEDx?
In the spirit of Ideas Worth Spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYoungstown (x = independently organized TED event). Fascinating TEDTalk videos will combine with live (local and international) speakers to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx Program, but individual TEDx events (including TEDxYoungstown) are self-organized.
Transforming Perspectives within Our Valley
We are so excited to bring TEDx back to Youngstown! Our goal is to build a movement to amplify ideas that foster hope, spark positivity and create forward momentum for the Mahoning Valley. TEDxYoungstown brings to light local and international ideas… ideas which inspire audience members to try out bold concepts within our community, to enact positive change and ultimately to transform the world!
